Cement Sidewalk Redo ~ Making My Old Sidewalk Look Like New

While I was redoing my porch, I decided I had better do something to the old walkway that leads to the back porch.

It is really bad and I don't want to spend a lot of money on it.  So again I took the cheap way out.  Paint!!

You see this side walk? Ugly and full of pits and holes.

I figured if I couldn't make it look better, we may have to just rip it out.

The first thing I did is to dig a small trench beside the walk so we could mow it easier.  I also cleaned the sidewalk as well as I could.  It really didn't clean up well.  This walkway is probably 40 some years old.

Next, I started patching the holes with a cememt patch.  There were a lot of holes in the sidewalk that I had never paid attention to before.  You can just see some of my patching.  When I was finished, it looked very patched.

I had some grey cement paint in our basement that I had leftover from painting the floors in our basement.  I wanted this to be more like a stain and not a paint, so I added quite a lot of water to the paint.

While I was painting the sidewalk, you could just see it sucking up the water.  It would suck the water in and leave the stain behind.
I learned this trick from some guys who did sidewalk painting in Las Vegas.

And here it is.  I  don't think it looks that bad compared to what I started with.

Now that the hard work is done,  I am so ready for summer!!!  We can now sit out on our back porch and enjoy it without looking at all the work that needs done.

Next, I want to try and see if I can make the inside of my garage look nice.  What a job that is going to be.

  25. That looks SO different! Sidewalk repair must be the thing to do right now... our neighbors just replaced a square and we have a square to replace as well from some plumbing work that was done like 4 years ago LOL We haven't bothered with it, but we're on a mission to make the exterior of the house/our property look nice.
