Aurorae Classic Yoga Mat Review ~ Thicker Is Better ~ Why I Need A Thick Yoga Mat

Why I need a thick yoga mat.

See those marks and bruise on my back?  Those are from doing exercises on a thin yoga mat.

You can also see a spot where my back bone is a little swollen.   It was worse and looks pretty good now.

My knees are another spot that gets bruised and sore, especially doing some of the yoga poses.

I am sure this doesn't happen to everyone, but I am thin and don't have a lot of meat on my bones.   When I do certain exercises and yoga poses, my back grinds on the ground or whatever it is I am laying on, including my teeter.

When I am at home it is no problem because I put my yoga mat on top of my carpeting.   When I go to our local fitness center, they have wood in some places and cement in the others.    There are several of us that are having problems with the thin mats and our backs and knees getting beat up.

Aurorae understands that some of us need a thicker yoga mat than others.   They sent me for review,  The Aurorae Classic Yoga Mat.  It is Ultra Thick,  and Extra Long with a rising moon focal point.   It comes in many different colors.

Now when I go to the fitness center, I will be able to do floor exercises without hurting my back and my knees.

Plus... This Mat is definitely longer.  I usually end up off my old mat while doing my yoga but with this one I have extra length to work on.

If you look, you can see how much thicker and longer the Aurorae Yoga Mat is compared to my older mat
Plus, look how much longer it is.     The focal point is going to work wonders for my concentration.

The Aurorae Classic Yoga Mat
1/4" Thick with specially designed memory foam. Thick enough to protect your knees and joints, while still allowing you to grip the floor for balance.  Indentations will disappear in time with use.

  1. The timing of this is perfect. I was just saying to Chris that the yoga mat I use isn't long enough and I need to find one that is a little longer, so I will definitely be looking into getting one of these!

    1. Yoga together sounds like something my Hubs and I need to do. He won't do it with me. Maybe one day.

  3. I have the exact same problem... thin yoga mats hurt my backbone and make the exercises and stretches uncomfortable. This looks like a much better alternative than the mat I have now!

    1. I don't know why a company would even bother making a thin mat. It just makes no sense to me. Lucky I found Aurorae has thick mats

  11. I actually got one of those years ago and you're so right that it's way thicker than many other mats. I feel so badly for you with that soreness from a thin mat. I'm glad you'll be all set now!

  12. I have never done yoga-left that for my Mom who is still into it on a slower basis at 91. She has never complained about pain but this might be a good gift for her--at her age she does bruise very easily!

You are going to love doing yoga. I don't do the hard stuff.. just the basic, but I really like it.

  18. I agree thicker is better. I used to take yoga, and since I had a thin mat, I used on of theirs and doubled them. Having one thick one would have been best though.

    1. I never thought of doubling them... that was a great idea you had.

  19. I absolutely love their mats. I have one for a while and the only thing wrong with it is one of my dogs chewed off a corner (grrr). I am getting back into yoga for 2014, took too long of a break.

  23. I didn't know they made thicker mats than the regular ones! Especially since I have to put mine down on hard ceramic tile! My back normally hurts afterwards, but I've never bruised like you, my goodness!!!

    1. Ouch... hard ceramic tile would hurt and be really cold. I don't like the cold when I am doing yoga.

  28. I'm with you! I hate thin yoga mats. I thought the whole purpose of a mat was to cushion you from the floor and most yoga mats are far too thin to do that.

    1. I don't even know why they make a thin yoga mat Corinne. Seems like maybe they never did yoga so they have no idea that thicker is better.
