The Wild Horses Of Corolla, North Carolina

While we were on vacation in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, the only thing I really wanted to do was go see the wild horses.

We stopped at the visitors center and they told us you don't always get to see them because they aren't always there.   I wanted to take my chances so off we went

The Wild Horses of Carolla is one of the BEST attractions of the Outer Banks.  They roam freely on the beach.

When we got to the spot that the Wild Horses frequent, I was overjoyed to see the Horses were out and about.

How fun to see these creatures who have survived  for years without help from humans

We also found out we could drive on the beach to look for more horses.  We actually drove right down the beach.

I tried to get a picture of the water and the other vehicles driving on the beach.

You need a 4WD for this feat.  Lucky for us we had our truck.

We actually seen more horses right off on the side of the beach so I had to stop and take more pictures.

It is illegal to come within 50 feet of the horses so we didn't want to get super close.  They seem very take but if a stallion feels you are a threat to his harem, he may attack.

I would have loved to stay longer and watch the horses all day long, but we had things to do, places to go and people to see.

  10. Neat! I've seen the wild horses on Assateague Island. Some of the ones on the Virginia side of the island have become rather tame and will even beg visitors for food!

  17. They are beautiful. I've never seen wild horses like that (but the the one I used to own was pretty wild!) He was too young for me to handle and sold him after about 1 year. I still love to go riding - and you? Do you ever go riding? :)
