We Were Scammed On Craigslist.com By Lacey Roop ~ Vacation Rental Gone Wrong !

I want to make this very clear up front. Craigslist.com is not to blame.  This was our own stupidity!!
We have rented from others over Craigslist before and never had a problem.  This time we were not so lucky.

We put an ad on Craigslist saying we were looking for a rental home in Kitty Hawk, NC .  This was reported to the Kitty Hawk Police Department.

Here is the email we received from    lacey.roop@yahoo.com
Hi,
Saw your ad and I have a 4bd 2bth cottage that is still available for July near Kitty Hawk. If you are interested I can send you more pics/info!
Thanks so much!
Lacey

There have been many more emails back and forth with Lacey.   She is a compulsive liar

My Hubs did a lot of searching and we found out that Lacey Roop  is very bad news.  In our seach we found she was being brought up on charges on 2/03/13 for issuing a bad check.
Then we found there was a Jury Trial for June 3, 2013 but I think that was cancelled.

We found her Mother, Father, and Brother.
Mother Li--a J
Father Ar--ie

They moved from
--- Howard Roop Lane
Patrick Springs,  Virginia
              To
12 Lupfer Ave
Whitefish, Mt 59937

I think the mother is back living on Howard Roop Lane
Lacey told my Husband that her father died (If we can believe that), I think around April.   If this is true, she probably helped him into his grave by being such a piece of scum.   He most likely died wondering how he could of have spawned someone like this.

For months now, Lacey has told us she is going to make this right... we have all the emails.  She tells us she has mailed us a check, yet we never receive it.   I can't tell you how many times she has supposedly mailed us a check.

Lacey Roop Scams or Attempted Scams

The above link  is just like what she did to us.  This girl is really scamming a lot of people

http://www.zillow.com/advice-thread/Rental-Scams-in-San-Diego-and-Oceanside-on-Trulia-and-Zillow-and-Postlets/489805/

Here is one my Daughter found that sounds just like what she did to us.

http://rentalscams.org/scam-and-fraud-contact-information/
o    I was recently scammed by two supposed home owners in Key West. Do not rent from either of these individuals:
Lacey Roop – 914 James Street, Key West, FL
Michael Collier – 508 Grinnell Street, Key West, FL
In corresponding with Michael, it became obvious that he was scamming me after the rental agreement he sent was an image – a jpg of a form, that could not be filled out electronically. He also had extremely poor grammar, but he did include references for me to check, which turned out to be totally bogus.
Lacey was quite different. She responded with a very genuine sounding story that she inherited the property from her grandparents and was getting ready to sell it but did not want to leave it empty while they were updating the home. She really had me going. She originally sent me pictures of the outside of the home, the pool, a bathroom and the kitchen. I became suspicious when she couldn’t offer me any pictures of the bedrooms or living areas. I came to find out that the home is listed for sale and is empty. No wonder she couldn’t provide pictures. I found the home on Trulia and contacted the listing agent who confirmed the house was not for rent. Lacey almost had me. Seems these scammers are getting more and more sneaky all the time.
Thank you so much for creating this site. I feel terrible for those that have become victims to these scams and have actually lost money! I encourage folks to report known scams on this site or to the FTC. Stopping just one person from further scams will help us all in the end.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Active Rain also has her email listed here as a scammer  http://activerain.com/blogsview/3708641/avoid-rental-scams-ask-to-meet-agent-or-owner-in-buckhead-atlanta-2-

Although the money we lost will not makes us or break us, it does Piss Us Off Royally.   It was quite a lot of money to be honest with you.  What the hell were we thinking????

If anyone knows where Lacey Roop is living, or where she works, please get in touch with us.
Any information is greatly appreciated.  We will not reveal our source, we just want our money back.... thats all.

If you have also been scammed by Lacey Roop, get in touch, maybe we can work together on this.

UPDATE Lacey Roop Craigslist Scam Update

UPDATE:  Lacey was jailed in Lincoln County around 6-24-2013 (not sure of that date) and moved to Flathead County for Revocation Of SUSPDEFR SENTENCE on 7-15-2013

It would piss me off to lose my hard earned money like that, too, and honestly, you're probably not going to see it again - which is so sad. She sounds like a professional douche bag and I just hope someone stops her before she can do this to more people.

  4. OMG - What an awful story. That sucks...losing money by getting scammed by criminals. I wonder if you had used Pay Pal, would you be able to get your money back? Telling your story will prevent someone else from being scammed on Craigslist and that's one good thing. I hope you get your money back.

We were only scammed once online about 12 years ago, and only for $20. We don't buy anything online now without using a credit card, so if we are scammed, we still get our money back. If a cc can't be used, they will get the money in person once the goods have been physically verified by us.

    2. She stole my identity, after I took her in being a pregnant woman with nowhere to go. I am on disability with three kids to care for and she stole from my father and I. $2200 on his credit card that she stole while he was in the hospital, he has been diagnosed with prostate and bladder cancer and had to have back surgery. She charge around $1300 on my credit cards and wrote a check on my account. She created email accounts using my info and pulled my credit report and changed my credit cards to those emails with her passwords on my accounts so I couldn't get into them. My credit score has dropped 300 points. I am checking my kids information and she even changed one credit card to my friends address so I don't know if she has hurt my friends. This has devastated me emotionally as well since I was supposed to adopt the baby and figured everything out the day the crib arrived, including that she had gotten rid of the baby. There is a warrant for her arrest out now.

I had taken her in as a pregnant woman with no where to go. She said the baby was the result of rape and asked me to adopt it. I figured everything out the day the crib arrived, including that there was no longer a baby. I am heartbroken and my credit score has dropped over 300 points. She pulled my credit report. She called and changed the contact info on my accounts putting her passwords on them, creating at least 3 email accounts in my name and thus am struggling to straighten everything out.
