Old Keg Redo ~ Making A Grass Patio Table ~ Water it with Orbit

Have you ever thought of growing your own grass patio table?  Crazy Huh??  I like the unique and different things.  That is why I decided to grow my own patio table top.

I had this old keg in the basement for years... It was either get rid of it or put it to use.  Since I have a problem throwing anything out, I decided to put it to good use.

I had no idea what to use for my table top until I spied the lid to my Hubs garbage can that he never uses.....  Perfect!!

First, I washed the lid, then I lined it with black plastic.  On top of the plastic I put some cheesecloth down.   I plan on growing wheatgrass and juicing it.  My table is going to pull double duty.

You can plant your grass in dirt if you want, I just think it is easier to juice if I grow it in cheesecloth.

Sprinkle your seeds, mist with water and cover with plastic.  They should start sprouting in a couple of days, then you can take the plastic off.

So How Do You Like My Grass Table?   The table only cost me about 49 cents, which was the price of the wheatgrass seeds.  I had everything else laying around.

I sn't this going to be really cool outside on my patio?                                                                     I planted the grass very close together so it would be able to hold drinking glasses upright.  Snacks will also pretty much sit right on top.  The perfect table for sloppy guests. .. who cares if they spill something.

Wouldn't this Palm Tree Fruit Appetizer look great on this table?

How am I going to keep this table watered?   Last year I spent hours every night watering all my plants... HOURS!!  Sometimes, I wasn't home to water them and boy did they suffer.

Orbit to the rescue!!   We got an Orbit 2 port digital timer that is going to work our for all our needs.

My Hubs hooked the timer up to our watering system.  It is 2 port so one port will go to my indoor plants while we are on vacation and the other will be run outside to this Patio Table and a few other things.    Lucky for me we have an opening through our one basement window that is just perfect for getting a small watering line outside.   Be sure to check out the indoor watering system we have going on for the indoor plants.

Now if I just had someone to mow the table while I am on vacation,  I would be all set.

Here are some more options for your watering needs
One port mechanical time
One port digital time
Two port digital timer
Three port digital timer
Four port digital timer
