Sweet Hush Puppies Using NuNaturals PreSweet Tagatose

My Hubs has been using NuNaturals Tagatose in his coffee for quite awhile now... And Loving It.

NuNaturals PreSweet Tagatose  is safe for diabetics since it will not raise blood sugar levels.  It is a natural occurring sweetner found in milk, fruits and vegetables.

My Hubs would never use anything but sugar in his coffee until he tried this.... so I know it is good.   The really nice thing is...  You can use this just like sugar in your cooking.  1 cup of PreSweet Tagatose is equal to 1 Cup of sugar..

My Hubs loves Sweet Hush Puppies, so I decided to make them using the PreSweet Tagatose.

Sweet Hush Puppies Using NuNaturals PreSweet Tagatose

1 Cup Flour
1/2 Cup NuNaturals PreSweet Tagatose
1/2 Cup cornmeal
2 Tablespoons baking powder
1/4 Teaspoon salt
1/2 Cup finely chopped onions
1/4 Cup finely chopped pepper, I used hot pepper
1 egg

Mix all together and put into the fridge until you are ready to deep fry them. If when you are ready to fry them and the batter is really dry, and just a touch of water.

Heat oil to 375 degrees. Drop hushpuppies into hot oil and fry a minute or so on one side then turn and fry until nicely browned.

Serve with honey for dipping.

  1. Tons of giveaways at your sea, awesome indeed. Never even heard of it before, but then no sugar is consumed at my shore.

  2. So Hush Puppies are more than shoes. LOL That recipe sounds good with the onions and hot peppers.

I added 3 raw egg yolks to my smoothie yesterday... WOW... what a high. Try it.

  3. What a creative recipe! I don't like hush puppies (I'm a weirdo, I know) but I bet my boys and hubby would enjoy these!

  4. I just had my first hush puppy not too long ago. They are pretty good! My husband eats them all the time on his lunch break, but being a stay at home mom, I don't get to eat out very often.

  5. I've never tried a hush puppy, but they look really good! Nunaturals is the only stevia brand I like to use :)

  6. Haha! I'd heard of them, but never knew what 'hush puppies' were! Nothing like a cross-cultural exchange!!!

    Have a great weekend!

  7. Since I never heard of tagatose, I looked it up. It's made from hydrolyzed lactose (from whey) which is then isomerized. It's FDA approved as a "novel food," ie, resulting from a process that has not been previously used for food. So... Have you had any side-effects?

No offense, but I had a bad experience with another engineered sweetener so I'm very cautious.

  8. I've never heard of a hush puppy before, but this sounds great - and not too bad in calories, either.

  10. This recipe sounds SUPER good! I'll HAVE to try it! I LOVE sweet stuff, and I KNOW this does NOT help me much at all! I give into the sweet cravings. WHY do we have them SO strongly?? It HAS to have something to do with the Candida, don't you think?? I'd LOVE to know your thoughts!
Thanks SOOOO much for the giveaway!

  11. Hi Laurie,
Thanks so much for stopping by..... Just want you to know, this recipe isn't one I eat. I make it for my Husband.

We have such strong sweet cravings because candida is a yeast and yeast feeds on sugar, carbs... Once we get the candida under control the sweet cravings go away. I don't even miss them for the most part.

  13. Tagatose has such a nice flavor -- will have to try it in hushpuppies! It will be an almond flour version for us (low carb).

  14. Thanks for writing back! WOW!!!! Your sweet cravings went away!!! I can't imagine that! I am a sweet lover from birth! LOL!!! I LOVE just a 'little' bit of sweet. I've been using artificial sweeteners for years. Diet Pops, Oh, what's the one that's just like sugar in the yellow package?? UGH! Can't think of what it's called! I just ran out and threw the package away, too! Darn! I add it to my Cranberry juice - to help stave off a bladder infection I got.
I hear the Stevia is the BEST. I tried it, but I had a little aftertaste left afterwards. It's something I can get used to. I'll HAVE to in order to help keep the Candida AWAY!!!!

  15. Laurie,
I pretty much just use stevia when I use anything. I know what you mean about the after taste. But I don't even notice it any longer.

Once you get your candida under control, you can use things like dates, agave, bananas etc. to sweeten.

  16. I've used the Tagatose in small amounts, combined with other sweeteners, but I haven't used it as a primary sweetener yet. I need to try that, but my little bag is almost gone! Since my husband is diabetic, it would be nice to have another sweetener for baking that doesn't leave that funky aftertaste!

  17. I have tried Stevia before and am looking for more natural alternatives to sweeten things..
