Family Cook Off !!

I told you in an earlier post I was making flowers for or Family Cook Off !!   Now, I am going to tell you about the Cook Off......  So much fun!!

We held it in my basement because not only did I not want the mess upstairs, but I have a huge basement.

Here are some of the prizes.  I ended up having to go out and buy more bamboo cutting boards and The bamboo sandwich cutting boards that come in a package of 6.

I think I ended up giving 6 large cutting boards plus the 2  six pack ones.  Then I gave Silicone treated hot pads and a few other small gifts.    I made sure that everyone who donated a dish, got a nice prize.

Plus I made aprons for each cook.

Here is how we did the Family Cook Off.

One person in each family was to bring a dish in one of the three catagories....  Main Dish, Side Dish and Dessert.    I told them I didn't need to know what it was, I just needed the catagory.

We were suppose to have judges, (friends of ours) to do the judging,  but due to unforseen circumstances, the judges couldn't make it.   So my Hubs made up papers for each person who came to judge.  They could not judge their own dish.      He had them rate it at 1 to 10.  10 being the best.

I had a number on each dish so when my Hubs made the voting papers he had Numbers from 1 to 12 on it.    If I had it to do again, I would have them tell me what dish they were bringing so I could have that written on each voting paper.

I think we had a GREAT turn out for our little family.  The dishes Were

Tortellini  Casserole
Eggplant Parmesan
Baked Chicken
Chili
Turkey Rollups
Holiday Potatoes
Orzo Salad
Broccoli Slaw
Tossed Salad
Cornbread
Carmel Apple Salad
Pistacho Cake

The Grand Prize Winner.... The Pistacho Cake although the Carmel Apple salad came in 1 vote off.

I tried to get pictures of all the food but as soon as the food was placed.... It was like a stampede
There was a plate in my way in every picture.....

The line circles around so I decided there was no way I was going to get a picture of the food.  They were like vultures so I just got out of their way and let them at it.

All in all.. it turned out GREAT!!

Have any of you had a Family Cook Off?  If not, you should try it...

  1. What fun! While we have never had a family cook off, I do know what you mean about the family being vultures around the food. I buy an extra turkey every Thanksgiving because I barely get any after slaving away at it all day. Then when they are all gone, I cook my own!

  2. it does look like a wonderful family time. That must be your granddaughter in the bottom picture in the orange sweater,
Presents and all. It was more like Christmas.

  8. My husband and his friend do a cookoff and the family members on each side judge (anonymous votes, not knowing who cooked what). I blogged about it once a long time ago. It is fun! Yours looks great because there are so many dishes, yum!!! I love this idea. :)

  10. Cookoffs are always interesting, as long as someone is around that can cook.

  14. No cook off, but my dad's older Italian friends seem to spend 80% of their lives cooking. So I have enjoyed really good food. This does look like fun & you made some nice aprons. THAT I definitely could not do.
